August Action Plan

Can you believe we’re heading into August?

We’ve already accomplished so much. Together we’ve saved 247,919 flights from London to Paris worth of carbon in fact!

Let’s keep it up – our small actions really are making a difference.

Coming up in August is:

🚴‍♀️ Cycle to work day – 5.8.22
👩‍🌾 National Allotment Week – 8-14.8.22
🧒🏽 International Youth day – 12.8.22

To make the most of these days, why not try out the actions below and make your August count 👇

Pledge to Lift share 🏎️ and reduce your emissions

Road transport accounts for 22% of total UK emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2). We can change this – go car free as much as possible, or lift share the unavoidable journeys.

🌱 New to it 🌱

  • Talk to your friends, colleagues, fellow parents, and neighbours to find out if you could regularly share a commute or journey.

🤸🏽 Doing it 🤸🏽

  • Make new friends and look after the planet by finding people to lift share with on BlaBlaCar or Go Car Share.

🙌 Done it 🙌

  • Join a car share club and select an electric car!
  • Leave the car behind, and share an active journey by foot or bike. You’ll save on your gym fees too!

Pledge to Hose down 💦 and reduce water waste

Since 2014, Europe has continued to experience a series of severe droughts that are said to be the most extreme for more than 2000 years.*

Many people around the world survive on 10 litres of water or less a day; in the UK we use this in almost one flush of the toilet. In fact, only 3% of domestic water is used as drinking water.*

We can take action against this with some easy changes!

🌱 New to it 🌱

  • Switch the hosepipe for a bucket or watering can –  a hosepipe will use 250 litres per hose pipe use, compared to only 30 litres per bucket and sponge wash for your car.*
  • Leave your lawn – letting the grass grow longer in dry spells helps keep moisture in the soil.

🤸🏽 Doing it 🤸🏽

  • Plant drought resistant plants in your outdoor space.
  • Use your grey water – from your washing up bowl, to the water from your boiled potatoes, pop it on your garden and watch it grow!

🙌 Done it 🙌

  • Install a water butt to collect the rain when it does fall. It’s perfect to use on your garden, or to clean the car!
